Dr. Elena Cristina Nitulescu graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hațieganu" in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
She's currently a pediatric ophthalmologist at the Emergency Children's Hospital "Marie Sklodowska Curie" and Infosan Eye Clinic in Bucharest.
She has made significant strides in the specialized area of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and retinoblastoma (Rb).
Her tireless efforts and expertise in ROP have not only saved the vision of countless premature infants but have also raised awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in ROP. She has written the national screening guide for ROP, a testament to her deep commitment to advancing the field and ensuring that the best practices are followed in the care of infants at risk of ROP.
During the Covid pandemic she started the consolidation therapy in Rb, with the online supervision of the teams from Paris and Lausanne, currently being the single ophthalmologist who take care of children with Rb in Romania, the goal being to develop a National Center for Rb at ”Marie S. Curie” Hospital in Bucharest.
She has also special interest in pediatric retinal diseases and genetic eye conditions, strabology and neuroophthalmology.
