Dr. Simona Nicoară has been a Professor of Ophthalmology since 2017. She is Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. Her main areas of interest include vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, retinopathy of prematurity, as well as inherited retinal diseases.

Prof. Simona Nicoară has coordinated six national scientific research grants to date, focusing on vitreoretinal surgery, retinal and optic nerve regeneration using stem cells, and applications of artificial intelligence in retinology. She is the author and co-author of 54 scientific papers published in the ISI Web of Science Core Collection, with an h-index of 11.
